The primary relationship is which we must be successful is in the relationship withone’s self, before one can expect to have a healthy, happy, fulfilling and balanced relationship with another.
Individual counselling is also a good start to inproving one’s relationships in general.
The objective of relationship counselling is to find a way forward. The focus is on the present and the future, not harping on what each partner has done in the past. By identifying the recurring patterns and the beliefs that lie behind them and which bring about conflict and sadness to the couple, change can begin.
It is my function in the relationship counselling to hear each one share his/her perspective of what isn’t working in the relationship, and from that, I identify and point out the hidden false beliefs that each holds about themselves, the relationship and life in general. These beliefs set us up for failure – and it is only by understanding the Truth of Universal Principle which I will explain, that we can understand what hasn’t been working and why. With a change in our thinking, our beliefs, our behaviour and expectations, we can ultimately change the experiences we have in our relationships.
Effective communication is the cornerstone of any successful relationship. Learning Compassionate Communication by really hearing one another and sharing one’s feelings and needs, a whole new world opens up. It is when one’s needs are not being met that conflict arises. So when we can identify these needs in the relationship counselling, and how they can be fulfilled, the problem is easily solved. I teach couples these new skills in communicating and conflict management in a safe and compassionate space. Learn more about this at www.nvc.org
